Bread Making

There is a lady at my husbands work that had surgery recently and is a widow providing for her two teenage kids. She is unable to work at the moment and is struggling by getting by till May when she returns to work. If you would like to help her out for this month all the proceeds will go to her. Next week will be the last week to let me know if you are interested. I will be doing my Whole Wheat Italian Bread.

Ragnar relay

Adam n I want to do the so cal Ragnar relay. It's 200 miles shared among a 12 member team. Each leg is between 2-10 miles and varies in difficulty. It's April 15-16 and it goes from Huntington beach to Coronado island. Anyways if u r interested check it out at ragnarrelay.com and click on southern California relay. Homemade Bread

I happen to find myself laughing at posting such a message but it wasn't my idea. I will not say whose idea it was. This is the deal I have been making and selling bread for over a year and I have a new bread for every week. If you are interested large loaves are $5 a loaf and mini loaves are $2. Celebrating Home Party!!

Joy School Anyone?

Hey ladies!

I just got an invite from Suzanne to join this blog which I'm super excited about! What a great idea:) I'm also hoping that this blog post can help me with my quest to start a joy school with some of the Moms in the ward. I have a almost 5 year old boy named Rowan and would love to get a group of four to five years olds together for a co op preschool. Last year I did this while living in Utah and it was such a fun experience. We had 6 kids in the group and each parent would take turns teaching 2 days a week. If we have a group of six, that would mean you would teach two days a week every six weeks. Each class is two hours long. This was a wonderful experience and a great way for Rowan to learn and meet new friends. I also want to really prepare him for Kindergarden next year. New kindergarten cut off

I just heard this from my son's teacher. I didn't know they were considering changing the date. So I thought I would share the info.....
Kindergarten age will be changing in California.  Starting in 2012, children will need to be 5 on or before November 1 to go to kindergarten.  In 2013, the cutoff will be October 1, and in 2014, the cutoff will be September 1, where it will remain.

Refugees in Afghanistan

My brother in law has been deployed to Afghanistan for about two months now. He has been on patrols through the better parts and through the pretty bad parts where the refugees are taking shelter. He has taken pictures of these children who have nothing. We know as mothers that it gets hard providing the necessary things for our children. Some of these Mothers can't even provide a blanket or even a scarf to keep them warm. The church provides many things to places all over the world and I thank all of your who helped do the humanitarian kits and the baby blankets awhile ago. Weeks ago my sister has started crocheting and knitting scarfs and blankets. By word of mouth and facebook she has started collecting blankets, scarfs, baby dolls, suckers, gum, gummy bears, candy, etc.. I am starting by "word of mouth and this blog" to get the idea circulating through peoples minds to see if there is anything laying around your house that you may not need anymore that could possibly comfort a child or put a smile on their face. My sisters and I were taught very young how to knit and my mother has been knitting away watching television every night. My dad has been cutting fleece to make scarves as well. It has been a family affair and its awesome to see that my sister who has a husband fighting this war stand up and do something then sit and pout at home that she is thousands away from any relative. I am personally shipping things out to Tennessee to her so she can then ship it to Lt. Michael Conforti, 101st Airborne 4th Brigade.. I will ship every month on the 30th. Girls Night Out this Thursday!

Girls Night is at my house this Thursday at 8:00 PM. Come to visit and if you want- put together your own freezer meals.

We did this a few years ago where everyone brought their own supplies and we used the girls night time to put freezer meals together- and everyone went home with dinners. The idea is to assemble everything in a freezer bag and have them in your freezer to either crock pot or bake for dinner later. Below is a ingredient list for different meals, choose what you like, if you'd like! (You can adjust them to meet your family sizes, food preferences, etc.)

Bring what you need for the recipes you want to do- don't forget Ziploc bags!

Caesar Chicken
1-2 lbs frozen, boneless chicken breasts (we think this means 6-8 chicken breasts- if so these make a lot for a small family and can be divided into two bags for two meals. Or make it all and serve with pasta/ rice, then with salad the next day.)
2 16 oz bottles of creamy Caesar salad dressing
2-3 cloves of garlic

Mexican Chicken
1-2 lbs frozen, boneless chicken breasts
1 16 oz jar salsa
2-3 cloves of garlic
1/2 cup finely chopped onion
can sliced olives, if desired

Parmesan Chicken
1-2 lbs frozen, boneless chicken breasts
1 cup Italian bread crumbs
2 t lemon zest
2-3 cloves of garlic

BBQ Chicken
1-2 lbs frozen, boneless chicken breasts
1 cup mild salsa
1 cup ketchup
1/3 cup brown sugar
1 T Worcestershire sauce

Mushroom Chicken
1-2 lbs frozen, boneless chicken breasts
1 can cream of mushroom soup
1 cup milk
8 oz sliced mushrooms
4 slices of crumbled bacon
2-3 cloves of garlic
2 T Worcestershire sauce
2 T lemon juice

Teriyaki Chicken
1-2 lbs frozen, boneless chicken breasts
1 10 oz. bottle teriyaki sauce
1 T vinegar
2-3 cloves garlic
half of a finely chopped onion

Pork Ribs
2 lbs pork baby back ribs
3/4 C ketchup
1 t chili powder
1 T Worcestershire sauce
1 T vinegar
1 t salt
1/4 t pepper

House Hunters

My sister and her family was on House Hunters on Friday.. I totally forgot to post it. You can still watch it if you have Hulu or you can go to Hgtv and look up fridays episode. Its the Conforti Family moving from Fort campbell to Fort Benning.. It shows him being on the military base.. Its way cute..

Magazines

Our downstairs bedroom has been half warehouse half nursery since we moved in, but I've promised Naomi that by Christmas she'll be sharing a room with Mae.

SO, in order to clear out the warehouse half of the room, I've got to get rid of a bunch of stuff and I'm starting with my old Cooking Light and Sunset magazines. They're old, but in good enough condition that they're still usable.

If you want any or all, give me a call and I'll get them ready for you. Otherwise they'll be in my recycling bins next Monday.

I've also got a small bag of bulgur wheat that I only used a little bit of. I don't anticipate using any in the near future and don't have the space to hold on to it, so if anybody wants that -- let me know.

Bunk beds and Dresser for Sale!

In preparation for moving, we are not wanting to take some things... if anyone is interested we are selling our twin bunk bed set. Herbs

I've got a decently big rosemary bush and basil bush growing on the side of my house now, so if anybody needs an occasional sprig of fresh rosemary or basil -- or oregano -- my oregano is big enough to share a bit, as well -- stop on by. They're on the left side of my driveway, in front of my back gate. Unfortunately my parsley and thyme haven't made it into the ground yet, though, so they won't be ready for awhile.

You don't even have to knock on my door -- just help yourself.

Making Ties

A few of you have asked, and have been interested in learning how to make little ties for your boys. So, MikE's Mom is so graciously going to teach this Thursday night! It will be at Brooke's home after the kids go to bed! So come over as close to 9 as possible so she can teach us all at one time! Bring your own material, needle, thread to match and straight pins. We'll have a few sewing machines their (you only sew a tiny bit) Even if you don't have any boys to make them for, come and learn for the future or they make great gifts! Need of Help

I have an issue- I need some help! I am having surgery tomorrow and it was scheduled for the late afternoon because I have the summer co-op older girls here for my day. I have pioneer inspired crafts all ready, making butter and biscuits, dolls, and candles, it was my plan to finish the co-op and check in for surgery later. Unfortunately, I got my time slot bumped and I am now the first patient and have to be there at 11:00. Well summer co-op starts and 11:00 and ends at 3:00. I called Bethany to see if I could switch with her for next week but her kids arent on the list and I believe she is out of town. My question is this... I would have someone come here to do it but I will be out of surgery and maybe home before co-op is even over and not wanting people here when I need the rest and so it leaves it to I may have to cancel it for the older girls or someone host it and I will switch your age group next week? Or anyone have any other ideas?

Flower girl Anyone??

I just realized I completely forgot to ask someone to water my garden and flowers for me when Ad leaves next week. Is anyone available July 28 & 30 (Wednesday & Friday). You would be able to go through the gate to the backyard to get to the 2 flower beds & garden. Your kids are more than welcome to play on the tramp, slide or bikes while you are busy making my yard beautiful. :) It will probably take 30 minutes each time. Let me know if you are willing. Pioneer Clothes Needed..

I'm in charge of a booth at the stake's pioneer picnic. Its a photo booth for each family to come and dress up in pioneer clothes and get their photos taken. I need help gathering clothing or Lyndsay and I will have to sew them all(please don't make us). I'm thinking bonnets, hats for the men, aprons, skirts, rubberband guns, slingshots, rag dolls, etc.. vacuum space saver packer???

Does anyone have one of those vacuum space saver packers that they advertise on infomercials? I have a big down comforter I need to pack and it's pretty big. Has anyone every used it? Is it any good? Just wondering if I should buy one. Advice please! :)

Stuff for sale

OK, we are trying to sell a bunch of stuff now. We want to get rid of our BBQ. We were thinking $50? It still works really well. The handle is broken but I glued it together and other than the white line down the middle you wouldn't know it was broken :) We are selling our fish tank (come on, you KNOW you want it!). It's a 65 gallon tank that's black. It comes with a pump, heater, light, food, etc. etc. etc. If you're seriously interested, call Sam. All the parts together cost over $1500 and we're selling it for $500. We have a really nice Rain Soft water softener. We spent $7,000 on it and would be willing to sell it for half OBO. It comes with an under the sink unit, an outside unit, and some other stuff. Again, if you're interested, call us. We have some tall bookshelves in our room that we painted white. Well, some of the white stuff has worn off. Not sure if you can sand it and re-paint it. We have a matching corner computer desk set. Each bookshelf we'll sell for $10 and maybe $30 for the desk. It comes with 2 separate pieces (a file cabinet and a drawer unit). If no one wants any of this we'll probably list it on Craigslist this week.

We're also selling our washer and dryer, but not until right before we leave. It's a "KitchenAid Heavy Duty super capacity plus whisper quiet". They're white. Gas Dryer.

I have summer co-op coming up and I want to do candle making for the girls and for my kids. Pioneer day is soon and I thought I'd have a day of Pioneer inspired crafts.. I have these large foam floor letters. The boys love them! We've had them since Christmas and they would need to be cleaned up a bit, but they're pretty fun. There's a few little pieces missing, but as I continue to clear stuff out I'm sure I'll find them.

Most of you have heard that we received official confirmation that Sam's job wants us to move to Phoenix. This will probably be happening early August. We need to de-junk our house!!! Some of it we're throwing away, some of it we're giving away, and some of it we're selling (like our Mac computer and our fish tank). I will be posting pictures and letting you know if anyone wants anything. I have picture frames, and baby stuff I would like to just give away. Anyone is welcome to it, first come first serve. Keep checking back for pictures. I won't feel bad if anyone doesn't want our stuff, I'll just give it to Goodwill. Love you all!!!

Tylenol recall 2010

I have a LOT of Tylenol and Motrin here at my house. They were all recalled. I called the company and gave them the NDC #'s on the bottle, and they sent me a check for $46. You can go to the company website here and type in the NDC #'s to see if it's recalled. Then you call the McNeil customer service # and give them the info and they'll mail you a check.

A Disney Movie Tip

You know when you find a great deal (like $8 dollar prescription glasses) or just something smart (like how to make your own foam soap) and you want to tell everyone you know? Well I figured I might as well share something pretty amazing that I recently discovered.

This summer join us in a service project for the whole family!

Non-profit organization Friends of Yimbo (the Yimbo tribe is in Kenya Africa) is raising money for school uniforms. At the park meeting we will meet Shelly- a friend that will be going with Friends of Yimbo to Kenya this summer. She will tell us about the tribe and the service that people have given there. She will share pictures and we will take a group picture of us for her to take on her trip this summer. When Shelly is in Kenya she will take a picture of the children there holding up our picture! We will have a end of summer cultural potluck where Shelly will return and tell us about the trip and the children who we were able to help!

Each school uniform is $10. You may choose to work as a family to earn money for one uniform, each child earns enough for a uniform, or however you choose. You can help your kids earn money in many ways- we'll share ideas and brainstorm at the meeting next week!

Date Night June

Pool Days

Pool Days are here!!

We will be meeting at Jessica Brunson's for the next 2 Fridays--June 4th and June 11 from 1-3PM. You need to bring towels and a chair for yourself. As Summer is so much earlier this year and California is notoriously June gloomy we are going to try a little later time at the pools. The one negative will be there is very little natural shade at the pool sites.

(After the 11th we will be doing some kind of rotation between Jessica's and Dana's pools--I will let you know as it is decided.)

Rental?

We are wondering what we want to do with our house...rent it...short sell..... Not too sure right now. I know a lot of you have friends in Tera Vista or Upland and wondered if any of them would want to rent. We have done a lot of upgrades to the house (backyard, Crown molding on cieling) and all the floors were updated when we moved in. THe house is 2600 square feet, 4 bathroom, 3 bath. Free Rocks

I have no idea what kind of rocks these are but if you want 'em come and get 'em! They are dark gray in color. I'm not sure if you can tell by the picture but we have a lot! Leo Carillo Campout

We are planning a camping trip to Leo Carrillo for this September 2-4th (Thurs- Sat), Labor day weekend. You can camp Thursday and Friday or just Friday night- whatever works for your family (or just show up for the beach on Saturday!). Everyone is going to reserve their own family's site- max per site: 8- or make arrangements with other families to share a site (the second car has to pay to park- I think $5)

Mark your calendar for this Monday March 1 at 8:00 AM to make your reservations (see link below- this Monday is when the dates become available). This is a very popular campground and it will fill up quickly. If you know you are interested I would make reservations as soon as you can. There is a cancellation fee if you end up not being able to go and call to cancel.

We don't get to reserve a specific site- those are first come first serve- so it helps to keep a list of who has reserved a site so we can try to get everyone in the same area like we have done in past years. The reason it has worked out in the past is because we got their early and told them all the names that had booked reservations- then they let us have the sites together. It is a crazy procedure in real life- but we will do our best. Please email me once you have your reservations so I can keep a list.

The wedding is optional black tie so Scott's wearing a suit. I have one black dress that I have worn to every single formal event for every single pregnancy. CRAFTING

Dear Everyone,

Kristina Allred and I have been crafting like crazy and having a blast!!!  I don't know why exactly--just got in the mood before Christmas and it never went away.  I am going to post some pictures of what we have been doing and if anyone wants to make some--let me know.  The things we have been making are for Valentine's, Easter, Fourth of July, etc.  Each item uses both the back and the front.  Some of you have seen the crafts at my house or Kristina's.  I am also including a picture of 2 things Jessica Brunson made which we can make also.  (One of them is a Halloween item but has endless applications!!!)  I will get the wood and cut it, you would need to get the paper and embellishments you want (I'm happy to help with any of that, too), so the cost will be pretty minimal.  (Those of you who went to GNO saw what Kristina made--too cute!!--we can do anything like that also.)  Some of the pictures I took with photo booth and are a little washed out--you are welcome to see them at my house.  With one the front is the XOXO and the back are the STARS.  The other XOXO has the back as the EGGS.

GNO - The Love Of Friendship!

Alright girls, its about time we get back into the right mind set! We need each other, there is no denying it! GNO is going to be at my house this Thursday, Feb. 4th at 7 pm. We are going to have good food, lots of fun, and we will discuss and plan the rest of the year out so that another month doesn't slip by. In celebration of the upcoming Valentine's Day (and since we didn't have our big Christmas GNO and gift exchange) I thought we could have some fun doing a fun gift exchange for the "Love of Friendship". Now the gift could be whatever you want ... it could be hand-made or store bought, but lets try and remember what we are celebrating ... Our Friendships and the Love we have for one another. Don't stress about it, have fun! I hope this is ok with every one. The gift exchange is optional. If anyone has questions or more ideas please let me know. I am excited and hope you all can make it.

2010 Healthy Habits Challenge

Last year some of us participated in the Healthy Habits Challenge. It was a twelve week program where you were challenged to keep ten healthy habits per day. You got a point for each habit you kept per day and reported your points at the end of the twelve weeks. This was the motivation I needed to kick some of my bad habits and work on some of the things I should be doing. Since I have already broken my new year's resolution for healthy eating, it is time to start

The 2010 Healthy Habits Challenge!

It starts on Monday, Feb 1!
Here are the rules:

The Habits

1. 7 hours of sleep: naps count
2. 30 minutes of exercise: doesn't have to be all at once, taking a walk counts
3. No sweets/unhealthy snacks: you know what "sweets" are to you.
4. 64 oz. of water
5. 3 servings of veggies, 2 servings of fruit: or whatever combination of 5-a-day you get!
6. No soda: the aim is to avoid sugar, artificial sweeteners and caffeine
7. No eating after 8:00 PM: unless you are pregnant or nursing, in which case you can eat healthy food after 8:00 if you have or have had and extra serving of veg/fruit.
8. 15 minutes of scripture reading
9. One journal entry in the journal type of your choice: blogging, letters, gratitude journal, whatever else you do to keep a record of your life counts.
10. Choose you own habit: this is something that you will work to do daily. Another 30 min of exercise? Service? Eat breakfast? Flossing? Whatever you want to work on personally!

How it Works

-Keep track of you points daily and at the end of each week (Sunday) you may either email me (melissahoyal@gmail.com) or comment on the healthy habits blog (more info to come) with your total points for that week.
-You can earn up to 10 points per day.
-Sundays are days off- you get to take a break with no points earned or lost.
-When we are all done I will take out everyone's "worst week" total and toss it out. So if you have a bad week, go on vacation, need a break, etc. you have a little bit of room.
-At the end the winner is the one with the most points.

Thanks to the beloved internet, anyone can participate, no matter where you live! This might sound like a weird request, but you nursing moms will understand. My sister-in-law lives in Glendora, and a girl in her ward had a bad accident and can't breast feed her baby. The Pendleton mud run sold out in just under 12 hours of opening, so assuming most people interested did not get to sign up, here are a couple more to choose from:

Honeyville Grain on "Unwrapped"

The Food Network program “Unwrapped” featuring our Honeyville Farms Marshmallow Cocoa will be airing on Monday, January 18 at 9pm EST. The Unwrapped episode will be called “Black & White”. Tyler is not on the episode, but it should be fun to watch!

Stake Conf. Adult Session/ Mimi's

There are a few of us that wanted to take advantage of having a babysitter for the adult session of stake conference tomorrow night and go to Mimi's afterward for dinner and/or dessert.
So anyone who wants to go out- we'll be at Mimi's off the 210 after the session!
